Our goal is for each child to feel capable, confident, and connected to the learning experience. Each child has a unique learning style. Our child-centered curriculum is designed to encourage a child’s desire to build, draw, sing, play, etc. We want your child to learn through discovery and exploration.
Our multisensory lessons are creative and fun ways for your child to acquire new information and skills. The learning process becomes a highly meaningful and personal experience when information is explored and processed through sight, sound, touch, smell, movement, etc.
By meeting each child at his or her level we can assess, target, and track each child’s development and progress. We focus on skills like auditory and visual processing/discrimination, expressive and receptive language, fine and gross motor development, creative thinking and problem solving through carefully thought-out, fun activities.
Our curriculum covers social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development, community awareness, as well as the traditional New York State Learning Standards in all content areas: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art (visual, dramatic, and creative), Music, Health, and Physical Education through developmentally appropriate practice.
Each month a calendar will be sent home containing an overview of what we will cover academically in class. It will have a homework sheet attached. While this homework is optional it is recommended for reinforcement and parental involvement.
The Village Preschool’s curriculum follows the New York State Common Core Learning Standards (http://www.p12.nysed.gov/ciai/common_core_standards/pdfdocs/nyslsprek.pdf)
Community Outreach and Giving Back
The Village Preschool has been a contributing member of the Staten Island community for over 22 years. We have long standing relationships with the FDNY, NYPD, New York Public Library, local artists, musical groups, health and hygiene professionals, animal specialists, and skilled parents, like you. These groups and individuals bring the outside world into our classroom as part of The Village Preschool Curriculum. They share their talent and knowledge with us from fire safety, to cooking lessons, to concerts, and more.
The Village Preschool promotes social awareness and a sense of community by participating in several charities throughout the year like the American Cancer Survivor, Food Pantry, Holiday Toy Drive, March of Dimes, Autism Awareness, and more.
